Reigning Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four tournament victories β the most on tour β which included successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Consistency
Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the world number one, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Statistics
Sabalenka concluded the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and earned a record eleven million pounds in prize money.
She earned almost eighty percent of the votes cast by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking extended hiatus after the birth of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after securing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
