Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to return for the upcoming Hunger Games series instalment, Sunrise on the Reaping.
News has broken that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
A Major Reunion for Fans
The actors are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. It is believed their cameos will take the form of a flash-forward sequence, considering the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.
This marks the sixth installment in the global Hunger Games franchise.
Exploring the New Story
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed most of the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's narrative are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
The film welcomes several accomplished actors in pivotal roles:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a younger version of the menacing President Snow.

Separately, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
