A Ton of Anime Updates Landed During the Festive Season
The winter break present a plethora of activities far superior than catching up on the updates: unwrapping gifts, feasting on delicious food, and harnessing deep breathing to avoid arguing with family members. I hope you managed to do all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling announcements came out during the break, and just in case you missed a few, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Will Continue (In 2027)
Without a doubt the most surprising revelation, the notorious disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop more episodes. The show will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they could have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will remain at the helm. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which is seen as a good sign. Yet, the key visual for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, by now, they are probably trolling the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it still retained the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now fans are thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Has a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been going on for some time, and its sixth season was another excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two
Right after the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific premiere date has yet to be revealed.
